Had a great last day. Woke up to a text from my dad that he was already in DC...guess he was a little excited. ha. Went into work and sat around about 2 hours until my dad came and then I took him over to the capitol to give him a tour and we saw the Senator's private office. Took my lunch break directly afterwords and we just walked over to Union Station and had bagels and coffee/tea. Made plans to meet up when I got off work at 5, but when I returned to the office I was told if I filled out a survey I could leave in a 1/2 hour. sick.
Called up my dad and he came back. We got my luggage from his hotel and walked to my apartment to start my packing before going to......LA TASCA! BEST PLACE EVER!
We started with two glasses of different types of Sangria. They were good, but I liked the stuff I had gotten on a previous visit more so we ordered a pitcher of that with patatas bravas, pollo de ajillo, y calamares andaluzes. sooo good. AT 6 they brought out the giant pan of paella for those who bought drinks at the bar so we filled up on that before a dessert of tres leches y tortita de cafe. Had a great time talking with my dad and eatitng delicious food in an amazing atmosphere. Great time...as is always guaranteed at La Tasca. My favorite place in DC for her-sure!!!!
Went back home and changed before meeting John and Dan to go to Adam's Morgan for our intern party. Drank some tinto de verano and ate some cheese before heading out to see Amber and Karen for our last night together :(:(:(:(.
We went to U Street and went to a bar called Cafe St. X. Bar upstairs, dancing downstairs. Fun place. Ended the night at Ben's Chili Bowl (for my first time) and getting invited to a pool party...hmmmm.
Left at 6 am and after a stop in Ann Arbor for Real Seafood Company I am home. St. Paul/Lauryn/Eric(s) tomorrow!!!! sooo excited!

Tusker
Fun lasts Thursday! Took my half day at work and went to lunch at Good Stuff for the laaast time with John, Erica, and Annie. For the afternoon we went to the Museum of Natural History and I finally saw Wild Ocean on the Imax screen. Pretty cool movie about conservation with some great footage. Beautiful area off the coast of South Africa.
Went for a walk around the mall by myself afterwords. I think my favorite place in DC touristy-wise is the WW2 monument. It's so nice to just sit and put your feet in the fountain and listen to it. On the walk back I got caught in a thunderstorm and was soaked through. It was awesome!
At night I went out with Fernando and his friend who is in town. Fernando took us to a bar called Churchkeys at the McPherson stop that he knows a bartender at. It had a great vibe and we had a good time. They have like 100 beers on tap. Crazy.
The boys decided they were hungry so we went across the street to Ghana Cafe. Friend Plantains are amazingly delicious and we drank Tusker beer. I thought of my parents. A lot of fun. Good night.

Last Week
Slow week...obviously. We are actually going back into session for tomorrow to push some things through...weird. Today I spent an hour and a half in the capitol just wandering around. I then went back to the office to watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for the rest of the day...yea. Tomorrow I get a half day. Need to decide what to do with that.
Last day of the bucket at Union Pub tonight. Watched the Spanish game while I was there...yay for Silva!!!!!!!!!!

Kings of Leon

GREAT SHOW! It was a little crazy getting there because it was in Virginia. We took the orange metro line into VA to fairfax and then had to catch a cab from there to bristow. The arena was really cool. It was outdoors and there was a roof over the stage and some seating, but then it was surrounded by a grassy hill that we sat on to watch. The band was sooo good! Great show and their new stuff all sounds really good

Made it back in time to use the metro still (yes!) and now I need some sleep from my busy day.
West Wing
Had a tour today of the west wing. VERY cool. Yesterday, John and Dan have a friend who works in the white house who offered to give them and a few friends a tour so they invited me! So happy they did. The place was cool, but the COOLEST part probably was our tour guide. They didn't even explain to us who he was until AFTER the tour and now I am mad because he was none other than Nick Colvin. Aid to Obama since he was a senator and rumored lover and drug-sharer with the president himself. It was so cool. He was a really nice guy and now I feel like I met someone famous.

That's Nick with Barack

Fourth Week
Ok, let's play catch-up.
This week I had an assignment from our tax guy I guess is what we'll call him. The HIRE Act was passed this past March (Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment)basically acting as a jobs bill subsidizing labor. Any person who was hired to a private company (non self-employed) and had been unemployed for the past 60 days made their company eligible to receive an exemption from paying their portion of the salary tax for that employee. If the worker was kept for 52 weeks the company would receive a $1000 retention tax credit. Cool. So The Treasury Dept. has put out 2 reports now on how this has been working and the costs its creating with the 2nd report coming out on August 2nd. I had to go through the report and do some research as to what people thought would happen (estimates and so forth) and what actually has happened, including giving an opinion on if it has worked or not. Probably my favorite assignment I have had. Very interesting. I feel smarter.
Monday I went to screen on the green again and saw Bonnie and Clyde. When they finally did it everyone started cheering. It was pretty funny.
Tuesday after work I met up with Amanda and Amber and we went to H&M because I had seen a dress there that I wanted and was going to buy it. My size was gone :( so I didn't get any dress but we did go to Fro-ZEN-yo which was DELICIOUS! Birthday cake and peanut butter fro-yo = love.
Wednesday I went on my lunch break to metro center and replaced by metro-card that had gotten de-magnetized. $10 in my pocket whoo hoo!

Thursday was a great day in the office. Kagan got approved and Levin and McCain duked it out on the floor.
Carl had wanted to move a bill from their committee up in the agenda and McCain objected to the motion (as the ranking member of the committee!!). He complained about how last year there was some bill that moved Levin's "social agenda" and he had filled the tree when it came to the floor so he was upset. Carl was just like, "hey, bring it to the floor if you don't like it and let's fix it...that's what this place is about". It was pretty cool. McCain even made a remark about how Carl had never served in the army and was just being a bit of a prick. He got personal (very uncool) and Carl didn't even care. He just let it roll off his back, but the yelling match was very rare in the senate. Cool to see.
Right after this happened we had a meeting with the Legislative Director of the office. He was a very cool and interesting guy (from Minnesota!). We eventually got to talking about what had happened on the floor and his thoughts were quite intriguing. He was very straight with us on how it upset him and how he can't stand how politics have changed since 9/11 where he thinks the real polarization started. He talked about how in the past partisanship stopped at the water and matters of the armed services and national security were always for the best of the country (or what one thought was best) but now voting against the Iraq war is seen as un-patriotic (or used as so in campaigns) and people can be attacked personally for their beliefs. McCain practically accused Levin of treason during their argument by making claims he wasn't doing what was best for the troops and our country and the LD thinks this is a pretty recent thing. Very interesting meeting.
Left work an hour early because I skipped lunch and came home to get a run in before Amanda's going away party. Stopped at a park to do some sprints like normally and a little Asian woman took time to stop and talk to me about how fast I was. hahah. Really funny: Wow, how fast you run? You run the 400? You so fast...wow. Great.
Met at McFadden's with everyone and had a good-ole happy hour. We got enough people to come that we ended up getting a $50 bar tab. Good night.
Today was our last day kinda and I am now officially on recess. Had a bit of a girls night. Had dinner with Karen and Amber at Good Stuff and then watched Jersey Shore before going for a run together. Now it's time for bed and tomorrow I am busy with a white house tour and Kings of Leon concert. YAY!

Shark Week
Nice weekend. Saturday I went to the National Portrait Gallery. It was really nice, but I would have preferred more photography. The presidential exhibition was cool.
For the evening I went to Emily's house and hung out with our interns and her housemates. Good time. Stayed up really late in the end with John because Dan was fighting with his girlfriend so we watched Southpark for a long time.
Woke up really late today and watched an America's Next Top Model marathon. Got fro-yo with Amanda and Amber, went for my run, and put on shark week. These were the only reasons to break my marathon watching. Relaxing weekend.
